Man falls to death from moving truck

an airtime recharge card that had fallen on the ground.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesman Inspector Bulisani Bhebe, yesterday confirmed the incident that took place around 12 noon along Longlands Road near Chitanda Farm on Monday. Insp Bhebe said Chaka Merevesa (18) of Jet Farm was a passenger in a Toyota Hilux that was being driven by Gorosviba Temba.

“The late Merevesa had a cellphone (airtime) recharge card in his hand that he was trying to use. Upon approaching Chitanda Farm, the card was blown by the wind out of his hand,” said Insp. Bhebe.
Merevesa then reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle in a bid to retrieve the card. He fell headlong and suffered serious head injuries.

Gorosviba stopped the vehicle and ferried him to Marondera Provincial Hospital, where he died the following day.

Insp Bhebe said Merevesa’s death was most unfortunate considering the circumstances that led to his fatal injuries.
He appealed to members of the public to desist from jumping off moving vehicles.
