A man from Madziwa died after he was fatally assaulted for knocking at another villager’s homestead at midnight.
Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tonny Nyandoro said Emily Garavaziva (29), Mazhiwawa Village under Chief Mutumba in Madziwa mistook the now deceased Gabriel Mombeyarara for a thief.
The incident happened on November 5, at around midnight when Mombeyarara passed through Garavaziva’s homestead.
He knocked on the door and Garavaziva opened it to check who it was. She failed to recognise him and assumed that he was a thief.
She alerted Gerald Mubaiwa (17) and the pair started assaulting Mombeyarara all over the body using sticks.
They stabbed him once in the left arm using a sharp object.
Mombeyarara managed to escape and lay down close to a well in the same village.
The following day at around 6am Mombeyarara was discovered by Otilia Chingwete and she informed Kindom Mazhiwawa (48).
The matter was reported at Madziwa Police Station and Mombeyarara was taken to Madziwa Clinic.
He was complaining of chest pains and had a deep cut on the left arm.
He was referred to Bindura Hospital where he died on November 10, due to the injuries.
On a similar case on the same day, David Chimbiti (90) of Chansato Village, Chief Chapoto in Mbire heard a neighbour Faresi Dhiningo (68) screaming for help at around 6pm.
Dhiningo was being assaulted by Panashe Chimbiti and David rushed to the scene.
He saw Panashe coming from Dhiningo’s kitchen.
David went inside and saw Dhiningo lying on the floor with blood oozing from the nose and left eye.
David was assisted in carrying Dhiningo to Chapoto Clinic. The matter was reported to the police leading to Pananshe’s arrest.
A generator pipe and stone were recovered at the scene. When the police visited Dhiningo at the clinic she could not speak and was referred to Katondwe Hospital in Zambia.
On November 8, Dhiningo passed away.
“We urge people to desist from violence. Solve disputes amicably or engage the police or local leaders to settle disputes and relatives,” said Asst Insp Nyandoro.
