Man fatally stabbed in beer brawl

A 25-YEAR-OLD Mberengwa man was murdered in cold blood by a fellow patron following a misunderstanding at a night club on Sunday.

Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende said the deceased, Stewart Shava was allegedly stabbed with a knife several times on his upper arms after a misunderstanding with a fellow patron while they were drinking beer at Deo Night Club in Mberengwa.

Asst Insp Mukwende said the assailant fled into the thick of the night.

“Police in Mberengwa are investigating a case in which Stewart Shava (25) of Dambaton Village under Chief Bvute in Mberengwa, was fatally stabbed with a knife by an unknown man after they had a misunderstanding while drinking beer,” she said.

Asst Insp Mukwende said the incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday at Deo Night Club.

“The two were drinking beer at Deo Night Club when they suddenly started arguing over an unknown issue. An argument continued between the two and the accused drew a knife, which he used to stab Shava on both right and left upper arms,” she said.

Shava, Asst Insp Mukwende said, sustained deep wounds before he became unconscious.

She said his friend took him to Mberengwa District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Shava’s friend hired a taxi and took him to Mberengwa District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital for post mortem,” said Asst Insp Mukwende.

She said a report was made to the police and they were appealing to members of the public who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to make a report at any police station.
