A 32-year-old Gweru man has been fined $100 for beating up his wife after he had a vision of her “poisoning” him in a dream.
Zvidzai Gandidzanwa of Mkoba Village Five pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife, Ms Loveness Manyeyavepo following a “poisoning” dream.
For the State, Mr Boniface Balamanje told the court that during the night of 7 August 2013, Gandidzanwa had a dream in which he saw his wife lacing his supper with some poison in an effort to “kill” him.
The following day, Gandidzanwa narrated the horrible dream to his wife who quickly dismissed the dream as a mere snoozing experience.
The court heard that Gandidzanwa who insisted that the dream could mean that Ms Manyeyavepo was intending to poison him then indicated that he was abandoning his matrimonial home with immediate effect.
While preparing to leave the matrimonial home, Gandidzanwa then asked about the whereabouts of his identity card to which Miss Manyeyavepo professed ignorance.
Gandidzanwa later became violent after failing to locate his identity card in the bedroom and started beating up Ms Manyeyavepo using a leather belt before he left the house.
Ms Manyeyavepo then reported the assault to the police at Mkoba One Police Station leading to Gandidzanwa’s arrest.
