A Gweru man has been arrested for running an unregistered college.
Tongai Pasvanhi, 34, who gave his residential address as House Number 5396 Mkoba 11, Gweru, escaped a custodial sentence on Tuesday after magistrate Judith Taruvinga, slapped him with a $120 fine.
He had pleaded guilty to operating an ‘‘independent’’ college.

The State’s case as presented by Daniel Tafuma was that on Monday, detectives received information to the effect that Pasvanhi was operating an independent college without a certificate of registration.

The court further heard that the detectives made a follow up and eventually arrived at house number 5013 in Mkoba 11, Gweru where they found 22 students undertaking different subjects.

Pasvanhi was immediately arrested and taken to a nearby police station.
A student registration book was recovered but there was no evidence that the college had a receipt book.

Pasvanhi could hardly defend himself when given the opportunity to do so.

He said:
“Yes, I am operating this college illegally. I know it is not registered. That is how I earn a living. This college is my business.”
