TAFADZWA Nyatondo, who forged an A-Level certificate to obtain a Business Administration diploma in Cyprus, has been fined US$300.
Magistrate Ferisi Chakanyuka sentenced him to a six months’ imprisonment of which two months were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
The remaining four months were wholly suspended on condition that Nyatondo pays US$300.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
In her ruling, magistrate Chakanyuka considered that Nyatondo did not waste the court’s time.
Nyatondo was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission in June last year after his accomplice, Molyn Mugodi, was already on remand.
ZRP Cyber Forensics extracted forged certificates from Mugodi’s computer and printer.
Several Zimsec Ordinary Level, Advanced Level and tertiary institutions certificates, including Nyatondo’s Advanced Level certificate were retrieved from the computer.
The certificates were sent for authentication to ZIMSEC and various tertiary institutions where they were confirmed as forged documents.
