adminNelspruit — A man who allegedly raped two women, in front of those living in each of their homes, appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Wednesday.Magistrate Andre Geldenhuys postponed the case to June for trial, with the accused, Errol Mdluli, kept in custody, a Sapa correspondent reported.
Mdluli, 26, from Mganduzweni Trust near White River, was arrested in August 2010 on 11 charges. The charges included rape, housebreaking with intent to commit robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault, pointing a firearm, and sexual assault.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges on Wednesday. Prosecutor Simon Mamabolo said it was on record that on August 7 2010, Mdluli broke into the two homes in Mganduzweni with an intention to rob.
“Firstly, you broke into a house where you found a man and a woman inside. After threatening them with a firearm, you started assaulting the man,” Mamabolo said to Mdluli.
After he assaulted the man, he held him at gunpoint and made him watch as Mdluli raped the 27-year-old woman.
“It is on record that there was also a third person in the same room, who also witnessed while you raped the woman on five occasions,” he said.
Mamabolo said Mdluli then took R44 and a cellphone from one of the occupants, along with R300 from the woman, plus two cellphones, music speakers and kitchen utensils, all worth R1400.
Afterwards, Mdluli allegedly forced his way inside another house, and threatened the family with a bush knife.
“You then assaulted an elderly woman before robbing her of her cellphone, speakers and R300 cash. You also forced the woman’s 13-year-old child to watch while you raped his mother,” Mamabolo said.
Mdluli denied he was at the two houses.
“I was not at the crime scenes that night. I was asleep at home and I was alone,” he testified. —Sapa
