The body of a middle aged man believed to be a resident of Marondera was yesterday found floating close to the shore of a pool in Dombotombo.
The police are treating it as a suicide case.
The pool is popularly known as “PaHokoyo Ngozi” while some have already coined it the “Pool of Death” as it is alleged that people die in that same pool in November of each year.
According to the police, the remains of the deceased who is yet to be identified, were discovered by a local resident who then informed them leading to the body’s recovery.
Dombotombo police attended to the scene and ferried the body to Marondera Hospital for postmortem.
Police said the body was recovered without any injuries.
The recovery of this body follows a report that was made to the police after people heard someone screaming for help from the same pool two weeks ago.
Police in Marondera reacted to the report and quickly contacted the Sub-Aqua Unit which came and made a thorough search for two days but could not find a body.
Some residents in Marondera believe that it might be the same person who was calling for help two weeks ago.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident and called on the public who are missing a relative to approach Dombotombo Police Station for assistance.
“The person was found without any identification or anything that we could use to positively identify him. He also had no injuries. We call for anyone who is missing his or her relative to proceed to Dombotombo Police Station for assistance.”
