Man gets 24 months for poisoning fish

A 22-year-old Bulawayo man who sneaked into  Eland Farm in Bubi District and poisoned fish in the dam has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.Lazarus Tasara of Njube suburb was convicted on his own plea by Nkayi magistrate Ndumo Masuku.

He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment but will serve an effective 18 months after six months were suspended on the usual conditions.

Prosecuting, Leonard Tsatsa narrated how between April 28 and July 1 this year, Tasara would sneak into Eland Farm and then use some toxic substance to poison fish in the dam. He would thereafter collect the dead fish.

He was caught red-handed collecting the dead fish by farm workers who apprehended him.
