Man gets 3 years for attempted rape

Farai Chishanu ordered the woman to collect an iron from his bedroom.

He then followed her and suddenly pushed the unsuspecting woman onto the bed and forcibly tried to undress her while he covered her mouth with a towel.
Magistrate Mrs Patience Ururu-Madondo sentenced Chishanu (21) to four years in prison after convicting him on his own plea of guilty.

She, however, suspended one-year for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
In passing the sentence, Mrs Ururu-Madondo said Chishanu had committed a very serious offence warranting a custodial sentence. She also noted that the victim was old enough to be his parent.

“He committed a very serious offence therefore he is a menace to the society and deserves to go to jail,” she said.
Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe told the court that on October 22 this year, Chishanu and the woman were alone at home when she asked Chishanu to give her the iron.

Chishanu told her to collect from his bedroom and he followed her. As she was coming out of the room, Chishanu blocked the doorway and pushed the woman onto the bed.
