adminSimbarashe Zimbudzi (26), of Plot 162 Marshal Street, Kensington, was convicted on his own plea by Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Tawanda Muchemwa.
Zimbudzi chopped off the fingers of Mr Mthandazo Sibanda with a machete after he caught him red-handed in bed with his wife, Ms Sinini Ndebele.
He was sentenced to a wholly suspended five months in prison on condition that he does not within five years commit a similar offence.
The State case was that on 26 December, Mr Sibanda, of Plot Number 5 Dumpier Road, Warringham, where he is employed as a domestic worker, went to Esiphezini area under Chief Sigola to have a nice time with his girlfriend Ms Ndebele together with other friends.
Zimbudzi got wind that his wife had gone with a boyfriend to Constance Tshuma’s homestead in Esiphezini Village, which they were using as their meeting place.
He armed himself with a machete and followed the two lovebirds.
Zimbudzi sneaked into one of the rooms and hid in a wardrobe waiting for the two lovebirds to enter the room.
Mr Sibanda and Ms Ndebele entered a separate room to sleep and a few minutes later Zimbudzi came out of his hideout, in the process scaring Ms Tshuma and other women who were in the sitting room.
He also threatened to strike them with the machete if they screamed and went straight to the room where his wife and her boyfriend were sleeping and struck the boyfriend twice with the machete.
In the process he told him he was going to kill him.
Zimbudzi then left the scene leaving Mr Sibanda bleeding and writhing in pain.
After the attack Mr Sibanda left the homestead with the intention of going back to his workplace but was picked up in front of Mrs Anna Nyathi’s homestead lying in a pool of blood after collapsing due to excessive bleeding.
Mrs Nyathi alerted neighbours who discovered that Mr Sibanda had been attacked and had a deep cut on the elbow and his fingers had been cut.
He was rushed to the United Bulawayo Hospitals where he is reportedly still admitted.
Mr Masimba Saruwaka prosecuted.
