A MAN from Harare yesterday appeared in court for allegedly shooting at a moving vehicle, damaging its rear bumper, during a late-night altercation in the Whitehouse area.

Raymond Nyika Mukiwa (54) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo, who granted him US$100 bail.

The State alleges that at about 11:40pm on Saturday, the complainant, Mr Law Chikwavaire, was driving from a bar in the Whitehouse area in his vehicle when he stopped after meeting two women.

Prosecutors allege that while Mr Chikwavaire was talking to the women, Mukiwa emerged from the darkness, charged towards him and struck him once on the right hand with an unidentified object, causing a minor injury.

It is alleged that Mr Chikwavaire then drove towards Whitehouse Police Station intending to make a report.

As he was leaving the scene, Mukiwa allegedly fired a single shot at the vehicle, damaging the rear bumper.

Police investigations led to Mukiwa’s arrest.

The State alleges that officers recovered a Tokarev pistol loaded with a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition from Mukiwa.

The firearm is registered in his name.

Prosecutors allege that Mukiwa acted unlawfully and that investigations into the matter are continuing.
