FOUR missing undergarments led to the premature end of an eight-month-old marriage, as the wife accused her husband of stealing her essential clothing.
Vitalis Mapuranga of Harare is being accused by his wife, Rudo Makumbe of stealing her panties while they were cohabiting in Harare, before sending her to stay with his parents in Buhera.
Rudo’s father, Patrick Makumbe dragged Vitalis and his father, William Mapuranga to Chief Makoni’s court, demanding to know why Vitalis took his daughter’s panties.
Vitalis and William absconded the hearing.
“Rudo met Vitalis in Harare and they started staying together as husband and wife in January 2023. Rudo was later asked to go and stay in Buhera with her in-laws. She later informed me that while she was still in Harare, Vitalis took her undergarments and is refusing to reveal their whereabouts or the reason for taking them,” Makumbe told the community court.
Rudo also said Vitalis denied hiding her panties, and reportedly offered to compensate her.
“He just took my panties and whenever I ask him about their whereabouts, he remains mum. I informed his parents and he offered to replace them.
“I told them that I cannot remain quiet over such an issue, a reason why I then informed my parents. I am not experiencing anything unusual,” she said.
The court ordered Vitalis to return the panties, pay three beasts to Makumbe and compensate him US$364 as the cost for the lawsuit.
