A 54-YEAR-OLD man from Manningdale narrowly escaped jail after brutally attacking his wife during a heated domestic dispute.
Tobby Zimba appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Maxwell Ncube after hitting his wife, Primrose Sibanda, with an iron bar and stabbing her on the arm with an Okapi knife. He was fined US$200, or three months in prison if he fails to pay. An additional three-month sentence was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
According to Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu, the shocking incident occurred on 7 March around 10PM at the couple’s home following a disagreement. Zimba allegedly struck Sibanda repeatedly with the iron bar before stabbing her on the right arm.

Despite the violent assault, the court’s sentence was lenient, largely because the victim had forgiven her husband. Sibanda told the court she had resolved the issues with Zimba and wanted him warned and cautioned rather than imprisoned.
The case highlights the delicate balance courts sometimes face in domestic violence cases where reconciliation occurs, but it also serves as a warning about the dangers of physical abuse escalating during arguments.
Authorities continue to urge victims to report domestic violence and ensure safety measures are in place, even when forgiveness is extended.
