A Gokwe man who impregnated a 12-year-old mentally challenged teenage girl has been arrested.
A source close to investigations said the teenage girl who cannot be named for ethical reasons lives with her grandmother who is blind and is of advanced age. The said the teenage girl is in Grade Five.
The suspect, John Piroro (35), allegedly took advantage of the situation. He would allegedly sneak into the granny’s home during the night and head to the teenage girl’s bedroom hut.
“The granny revealed that she sleeps alone in her bedroom hut while the teenage girl sleeps in her spare bedroom with her nine-year-old sister. The granny also said during the night Piroro would sneak into the teenage girl’s bedroom hut and have sex with her,” said the source.
The source said the sexual shenanigans started in December last year and were exposed by the nine-year-old two weeks ago.
Thereafter, a family friend conducted a pregnancy test without her knowledge and she tested positive.
After interrogating the girl, she then revealed she had sexual intercourse with Piroro and they swiftly reported the matter to the police leading to Piroro’s arrest.
Efforts to get a comment from acting Midlands police spokesperson Ethel Mukwende were fruitless as her mobile number went unanswered.
However, secretary to Chief Njelele, Fanuel Mhike confirmed the incident: “ I received a case from a local village where a mentally challenged teenage girl was impregnated by a local man. The matter was reported to the police and the man has since been arrested.”
