Man in court for assaulting ex-wife

A 45-YEAR-OLD man from Ingwizi in Mphoengs, Matabeleland South Province who is employed as a security guard has appeared in court facing charges of abusing his 44-year-old ex-wife.

Nkululeko Khumalo appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware charged with physical abuse.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to pay a fine of R350 fine or two months in prison.

In addition one month imprisonment was  suspended for a period of  five years on condition the accused does not within that period commit any offence of which physical abuse is an element for which upon conviction is sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The court heard that on 18 April 2024 at around 7pm at Ingwizi Business Centre in Mphoengs area Khumalo physically abused his ex-wife Constance Moyo who is employed as a shop keeper.

It is reported that he confronted her, asking why she divorced him. A misunderstanding erupted between the two.

In the heat of the argument, Khumalo, enraged, assaulted Moyo all over her body with his open hands before head-butting her nose.

Moyo, who was injured as a result of the attack, reported the matter to the police leading to Khumalo’s arrest and subsequent appearance in court.
