A 33-YEAR-OLD man from Pilot Mwanza’s homestead, Madalasite, Queens’s area in Inyathi has appeared in court facing two counts of physical abuse after he allegedly repeatedly assaulted his wife.

Bhekinkosi Ncube, last week appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Jochonia Ncube facing charges of physical abuse as defined in section 3(1) (a) as read with section 4 of Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

Ncube was remanded in custody, waiting for a trial date to be set. Prosecuting, Mrs Memory Matare said on two separate dates Ncube assaulted his wife Ms Ruth Mpofu over a misunderstanding the couple had.

“Allegations are that on 23 January 2018, Ncube had a misunderstanding with his wife resulting in him attacking her with fists all over the body. The complainant sustained a swollen face which forced her to relocate to her maiden’s home in Nkayi,” said Mrs Matare.

The court heard that sometime in February, Mpofu returned to her marital home in Nkayi and Ncube found her already in their house where he started accusing her of having an extra-marital affair.

“On 18 February 2018, Ncube started a fight with Mpofu accusing her of having an extra- marital affair resulting in the altercation between the two. Ncube assaulted Mpofu with a stick and fists several times all over her body and she sustained a swollen wound on the left shoulder and an inflamed wound on the upper lip,” said Matare.

The matter was reported to the police and Ncube was sent to the hospital for treatment and examination.
