ANYBODY MARINGA (46), of Harare, is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly struck his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter twice with an iron bar in the head after failing to locate the mother.

The child is battling for life at a local hospital.

Maringa pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Marehwanazvo Gofa, who remanded him in custody and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

The court heard that on May 10, Maringa armed himself with an iron bar and proceeded to his girlfriend’s house in Glen View 1, Harare.

It is alleged that upon arrival at the house, Maringa could not locate his girlfriend, prompting him to strike her three-year-old daughter with the iron bar twice on the head and once in the abdomen.

A report was made, leading to Maringa’s arrest.

The child was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital where she is in the Intensive Care Unit.
