A 43-year-old man from Njube suburb in Bulawayo has appeared before Western Commonage Court magistrate Mrs Sibongile Marondedze, facing two counts of attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody until July 10.
Prosecutor, Ms Christina Manyika told the court that the offences occurred on June 22 at around 10pm, when the accused, Sikhumbuzo Moyo, was drinking beer with his sibling, Ms Similo Moyo (44), at their residence. Sikhumbuzo allegedly informed Similo that someone had come looking for her during her absence. Similo’s response reportedly angered the accused.
Sikhumbuzo is said to have slapped and punched Similo repeatedly before striking her above the left eye with an axe handle. Maleya Phiri, who attempted to intervene and stop the assault, was also struck on the head with the same weapon.

Magistrate, Mrs Marondedze postponed the matter to July 10, when medical reports are expected to be presented.
In a separate case at the same court, a 30-year-old man from Entumbane appeared before magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga, facing assault charges. Prosecutor, Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the offence took place on May 12, 2025, when Aleck Ncube was socialising with his friend Isaac Vumbuno (38) in Njube.
A misunderstanding reportedly arose between the two during a conversation about a missing mobile phone. The dispute escalated, and Ncube allegedly pulled an Okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Vumbuno four times in the chest. He then reportedly tore Vumbuno’s T-shirt and stabbed him again on the left hand, causing a deep cut on his thumb.
The magistrate postponed the matter to July 7, 2025.
