A 37-year-old man has been hauled to court for bedding a minor.
Prince Tambamba pleaded guilty to sleeping with a 16-year-old girl he claimed was his lover.
He was remanded in custody while the State awaits the girl’s medical report.
He will be back in court on Friday for plea recording.
The State said in February last year, Tambamba proposed to the minor and she accepted.
He invited the girl to his place where they had consensual sex.
The State said Tambamba has been sleeping with the girl from February last year up to now.
The matter came to light when the girl shared her experiences with her friend.
The friend told the girl’s aunt she was sleeping with an older man.
The girl’s aunt then reported the matter to the police, leading to Tambamba’s arrest.
Prosecutor Zebedia Bofu said Tambamba was not a good candidate for bail because he might abscond due to a custodial sentence he is likely to face.
He said the age disparity between Tambamba and the girl was too much.
He said Tambamba should have known that the girl is a minor since she is still going to school, but he decided to ignore it.
