A 25-year-old man was brought to court facing allegations of vehicle theft.
Perfect Fazhe was granted $60 000 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.
He will be back in court on March 9, pending finalisation of investigations. He was ordered to report once every Friday at Rhodesvile Police Station.
The State said on November 23 last year, Fazhe allegedly approached Amazing Adventures Tourism Tour to hire a car.
Fazhe allegedly stated that the vehicle would be used by his uncle from Australia during his stay in the country.
It is alleged that he identified himself as Takura Bere at the car hire. Further allegations are that the following day at around 6pm, Fazhe, accompanied by Passmore Katiza, went to Adventures Tourism Tour and processed papers to hire the car.
He allegedly introduced Katiza as his uncle from Australia. Katiza produced his identity card and they were allocated a black Honda Fit.
On November 26, Fazhe created a fake registration book and sold the vehicle to Itai Makura of Prince Edward Car Sale for US$5 700.
He ran out of luck when detectives received information that Itai Makura had approached David Namilo to apply for a duplicate registration book for the stolen vehicle.
Investigations led to the recovery of the vehicle and arrest of Katiza.
He implicated Fazhe, who was also arrested. It is alleged that when he was searched, Fazhe was found with two identity cards, one with his name, and the other in the name of Takura Bere.
Essel Zinhiva appeared for the State.
