A 42-year-old man appeared in court for robbing a woman using the ‘chadonha’ trickery.

Solomon Chinhenzva was denied bail when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

He will be back in court today for his full bail application.

It is the State’s case that sometime in November last year, Pamela Madawo was on her way to Koala Meats, when she was approached by Manyara Makonza.

It is alleged that Makonza lied to Pamela that he had just come from Shamva and had no idea where exactly he was.

As they were walking, Chinhenzva showed her a bundle of money, and picked it up.

It is alleged that Chinhenzva then suggested that they share the money.

The court was told that Jasi Kambarami, who is out on bail, suddenly appeared and accused them of stealing the money.

Jasi was carrying handcuffs and identified himself as a police officer.

He accused Pamela of being a thief, working in cahoots with Makonza.

It is alleged that Jasi then asked if Pamela had money so that she could be released.

Fearing “arrest”, Pamela told Jasi that she only had US$1.

He then demanded Pamela’s bank card and pin number.

She was also ordered to surrender her iPhone 10.

Pamela later realised that all of them were tricksters and reported the matter to the police.

Investigations by the police led to the recovery of 64×2 litres of cooking oil.

The State said Chinhenzva and his accomplices used the bank card to buy 132×2 litres of cooking oil.

Grace Mugocheke appeared for the State.
