A 28-year-old Kenyan man who allegedly fled South Africa after fatally shooting his brother has appeared in a Harare court, where proceedings were delayed to allow the engagement of a Swahili interpreter.

Fidow Mumin Kulmiye was brought before Harare magistrate Ms Ethel Chichera last Friday facing murder charges.

The matter was postponed and is expected to resume today.

Prosecutor Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that the State will soon file an extradition so that Kulmiye can be tried in South Africa, where the crime was committed.

According to the allegations, CCTV footage captured Kulmiye at a shop where the incident occurred.

The video reportedly shows him shooting his brother from behind before striking him several times on the head with the firearm to ensure he was dead.

After the attack, Kulmiye allegedly fled South Africa, crossing illegally into Botswana before making his way into Zimbabwe, where he was arrested.

He is also accused of lacking valid documents to remain in the country.

Authorities are now working to expedite the extradition process to return Kulmiye to South Africa to face trial.
