A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Cowdray Park suburb has appeared in court for allegedly raping and impregnating a Form Two girl who is his neighbour.

The accused person appeared before Ms Adelaide Mbeure who remanded him in custody to January 30 for commencement of trial at the regional court.

Prosecuting, Mr Mufaro Mageza said the sexual assault happened last year when the two had gone out with their friends at Umguza Rest Camp.

He said the girl was offered alcohol before she was allegedly raped and could not remember what had happened until it was discovered she was pregnant.

“On July 28 last year at around 5.35PM at Umguza Rest Camp, the complainant was drinking alcohol with her friends when the accused person approached her and asked her to accompany him to a secluded place within the camp. The two agreed and accused person attempted to kiss the complainant and she refused.”

“The accused person gave the complainant a drink he was also drinking and the complainant consumed it,” said Mr Mageza.

From then on the complainant could not remember anything and gained her consciousness at around 6.30PM suffering from painful thighs and privates, the court heard.

“The complainant unsuccessfully tried to locate the friends she had been with. She managed to locate her brother’s friend who escorted her to her uncle’s place where she spent the rest of the night,” said the prosecutor.

The court heard that the matter came into light when the neighbours informed her parents that the complainant looked pregnant.

The father then took her to the hospital where the doctors confirmed that she was 28 weeks pregnant.

The matter was reported to the police on December 1 resulting in the arrest of the accused person.
