A HARARE man, Trymore Chari (35), has been remanded in custody after being charged for unlawful possession of 28 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth.
Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira alleged that on June 20, at around 8am, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Harare received a tip-off that Chari was dealing in dangerous drugs in Mt Hampden.
Acting on this information, detectives proceeded to the location, where they found Chari seated in the driver’s seat of a silver Toyota RAV4.
Upon noticing the detectives, he attempted to flee by accelerating his vehicle to make good his escape.
The detectives fired warning shots, prompting him to abandon the car and flee on foot. That was, however, not to be as he was arrested a short distance away.
A search on Chari’s person revealed three sachets of suspected methamphetamine in the right pocket of his trousers.
Further searches of his vehicle uncovered a silver digital scale and several packaging plastics, which were also seized.
Chari was taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics in Harare for further investigation.
A preliminary test conducted on the recovered sachets confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.
