Man in dock over heifer

appeared before a Marondera magistrate Ms Blessing Murwisi yesterday charged with stock theft.

He was remanded out of custody to October 17 on US$300 bail.
Mutinhiri was also ordered to surrender his passport and report to Marondera Police Station every Friday as part of his bail conditions.
Vengesai Mutumwapavi, who resides at Karimba Farm in Marondera, reported the matter to the police.

Mutinhiri resides at Newton Farm.
Prosecutor Mr Junior Mugebe alleges that on August 28 this year, Tinashe Dera, a manager at the complainant’s farm, carried out a dosing exercise and discovered that there was a large herd of cattle missing or unaccounted for.

On September 25, a heifer strayed back to the herd but it had a rope around its horns and had fresh brand marks ‘A’ on the left quarter and a faint ‘MU’ on left hind quarter.
The State says the Karimba Farm brand mark ‘LSL’ was distinctly visible on the left hind quarter.
A local businessman Daniel Sachiwo went to the farm on September 25 and claimed to have bought the heifer from Mutinhiri leading to his arrest.

The heifer is valued at US$500 and was recovered and is being held as an exhibit.
The brand certificate for the complainant is also being held and will be produced in court as an exhibit.
