Man in trouble for defaulting maintenance

Midlands Reporter
A MKOBA man, Nicholas Kuchando, will spend the next five months behind bars after defaulting in paying maintenance for his child and estranged wife.
Kuchando, 41, of house number 1454, Mkoba 3, Gweru, appeared before Magistrate, Rutendo Muchena and pleaded guilty to a contempt of court charge.

This is after he had been earlier ordered to pay $100 monthly towards the upkeep of his child by the same court. He is in arrears of $400.
Ackson Kadungure told the court that Kuchando was ordered in August last year to make monthly payments of $100 towards the maintenance of his child.

Kuchando’s estranged wife took him to court since he was failing to meet his responsibilities of taking care of her and the baby.
Normagee Furusa, the mother of the baby told the court: “Kuchando only paid the first instalment in August and I never received nor heard anything from him as from September up to December 2013. I do not know how he expects me to fend for his baby.”
Gweru magistrate, Muchena, then slapped Kuchando with an effective five month jail term for defying the court’s order.
