Magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa has remanded a Chipinge man who is charged with killing a cane rat in violation of the Parks and Wildlife Management Act in custody for continuation of trial.
Herry Mlambo (30) of Chibuwe Village, Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge will be back in court on Monday. He is facing charges of violating Section 59 A and B Chapter 20.14 of the Parks and Wildlife Management Act.
Mlambo is denying the charge and alleging that he found the cane rat dead in his garden. The incident happened on June 20, 2024, at Humany Range. The cane rat is valued at US$500.
Circumstances are that Mlambo allegedly went to Humany Range and killed the cane rat. He took the carcass home and hid it. Game rangers tracked his footprints and found the meat hidden in his house leading to his arrest. Mlambo was also arrested in 2022 and sentenced to 10 months in jail for possession of game meat.
