A BANKET man has been jailed for 12 years after being found guilty of raping his five-year-old niece.
Godfrey Munyaradzi (51) of Lembwe Farm in Mapinga, Banket, was convicted and sentenced by Chinhoyi regional magistrate, Ignatius Mugova.
Prosecutor Godfrey Mutunhire told the court that on Independence Day, Munyaradzi invited the kid to get some rice in his room.
When she got into his room, he undressed the girl and raped her.
The girl met her aunt, on her way home, and she asked her what she was doing in Munyaradzi’s room.
She didn’t disclose her ordeal.
The girl later revealed the rape upon further interrogation.
The aunt called Munyaradzi and questioned him, but he denied it.
He, however, later admitted sexually abusing her, and offered the aunt his cellphone for her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
She refused and made a report to the police and Munyaradzi was arrested.
