Man jailed 28 years for raping minor (4)

A 27-year-old man from Mwenezi in Masvingo has been sentenced to an effective 28 years in jail for   raping his employer’s four-year-old daughter twice. The man from Masvayamwando Village under Chief Mazetese in Mwenezi pleaded guilty to two counts of rape when he appeared before Masvingo regional magistrate Mrs Esther Muremba on Tuesday.

He was sentenced to 14 years on each count.

The man will, however, serve an effective 22 years in jail after six years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

In mitigation the man pleaded with the court to have mercy on him since he did not understand the consequences of what he did.

For the State, Ms Moreblessing Rusere said on an unknown date but between February and July the man who was employed as a herdboy raped the complainant twice on different occasions.

On the second occasion he was caught red-handed in the act and a report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
