A 34-YEAR-OLD man from Pelandaba West suburb in Bulawayo was sentenced to three years in jail for indiscriminately attacking another man with stones following a dispute.
Learnmore Mpofu had an argument with the victim, Impendulo Maguthwa after which he attacked him with stones.
The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital.
In passing the sentence, the Magistrate Mr Vakayi Douglas Chikwekwe noted that the offender targeted a delicate part of the body which is the head.
“Community service and fine will not do justice to the case, thus accordingly the accused is sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment without the option of a fine,” ruled the magistrate.
Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition that Mpofu does not commit a similar offence within that period.
Prosecuting, Ms Kufandikani said on August 9 at around 4pm, Mpofu and Mr Maguthwa were walking together on a bushy footpath near Masiyephambili Drive when they started teasing each other.
The court heard that in a fit of rage, Mpofu picked stones and hit the complainant on the head, on top of the left eye and on the mouth.
A report was made to the police leading to Mpofu’s arrest.
