A 24 year old Beitbridge man has been jailed for an effective four years for scalding a rival with hot water during a fist fight at a flea market in Tshitaudze suburb, in Matabeleland South province.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Munodei Mutongo was convicted at the Beitbridge magistrate court for a crime he committed in April this year.

He was accused of having assaulted Vusa Ncube (28) whom he later scalded with hot water on 8 April.

“The offender assaulted Vusa Ncube (28) by pouring hot water all over his body following a fist fight on 8 April at Mashavhire Flea Market. The victim was sleeping under a tree when the offender perpetrated the assault and he sustained serious burns. He was referred to Beitbridge district hospital,” said the NPAZ.

“The NPAZ would like to encourage members of the public to resolve their issues amicably without the use of violence or engage in third party mediation”.
