Man jailed for beating up father, arresting cop

AN unremorseful Chitungwiza man who assaulted his 65-year-old father and a policeman who tried to arrest him was jailed for an effective 11 months in prison. Agrippa Kwame of Unit K on October 3 and at around 8:30am went to his father Banditi Chikwami’s house in Unit A in the same location.

Kwame had earlier in the day received US$50 from his son to give it to his ailing father, Chikwami for medication.
Upon arrival, Kwame grabbed his defenceless father and started punching and kicking him several times.

The court heard that Kwame accused him of squandering his unnamed son’s money and said the old man should die to allow him to take over his house.

He only stopped assaulting his father after his mother Tambudzai Mandirawo restrained him.
The matter was reported to the police.

On October 8 and at around 4pm, Constable Paddington Kadzungura (28) stationed at Chitungwiza police was instructed to go and arrest Kwame for the offence.

The court heard that Cst Kadzungura approached Kwame at Jambanja Flea Market in Unit M.
Cst Kadzungura instructed Kwame that he was under arrest for assaulting his father.

The adamant Kwame did not respond but continued walking and failed to comply with the order.
Kwame punched the officer several times and stabbed him with an unknown object on the collar bone.

Kwame was apprehended by a mob leading to his subsequent arrest.
