A 22-YEAR -OLD man from Karoi has been sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.
The man, from Dandamera Village, Mwami in Karoi was convicted after expressing romantic interest in the juvenile in January 2024 and subsequently having sexual relations with her.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the two eloped in June 2024 and lived together as husband and wife resulting in the girl becoming pregnant and giving birth to a baby boy on 16 March 2025.
The matter came to light when the victim’s father reported the incident to Karoi Rural Police Station, leading to the offender’s arrest.
The court handed down a sentence of 24 months imprisonment, with 12 months suspended for 5 years and the remaining 12 months suspended on condition that the offender performs 420 hours of community service.
