A MUTARE man, Pride Madziwana, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment after falsely predicting the death of prominent businessman, Mr Isau Fungai Mupfumi.
Madziwana appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira today (Thursday), where the court heard how he spread a malicious prophecy claiming Mr Mupfumi’s demise.
Ironically, he admitted that the businessman was effective in his public duties, yet still peddled the alarming prediction.
Mr Gwezhira ruled the statements were reckless, malicious, and capable of causing unnecessary panic and distress.
Madziwana was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, wholly suspended, on condition of good behaviour.
Instead of serving time behind bars, he was ordered to complete 420 hours of unpaid work at the Mutare Civil Court.
Prosecutor, Ms Joyce Tinarwo represented the State.
