Man jumps to his death at Mpilo

A city man committed suicide by jumping off a second floor ward at Mpilo Central Hospital last week on Wednesday.

Nqobizitha Mlotshwa was admitted to the A2 ward and in the wee hours of Wednesday morning decided to take his life. A nurse at the institution said Mlotshwa fell on his head and a�?bled excessivelya�?.

Because of medical ethics, officials at the hospital did not divulge what Mlotshwa had been suffering from but sources said the patient had been experiencing a�?excruciating paina�? and had been telling nurses at the ward that he wanted to die and had gone for two days without food.

a�?He was always saying ita��s better to die than to endure intense pain. He refused to eat for two days,a�? said the source.

Hospital authorities were caught napping by the suicide mission and have since beefed up security in every ward.

a�?It was a complete surprise. We have since tightened security to avoid such occurrences,a�? said Mpilo Hospital clinical director Dr Solwayo Ngwenya.

Nqobizithaa��s brother Mqodisi Mlotshwa said his younger brother was buried at West Park Cemetery and the family was still in mourning.
