Man kicks pregnant wife

A Zimbabwe National Army soldier allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife by punching and kicking her in the stomach after she refused to give birth at his rural home in Mutare.

Xavier Kwenda (26) allegedly attacked his wife, Sharai Mupombwa (23), resulting in her being admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital. Kwenda reportedly ordered his wife to go to the village so that she would deliver there. This was alleged when Kwenda, from Pumula suburb in Bulawayo, appeared before provincial magistrate Mr Willard Maphios Moyo facing charges of physical abuse.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to 12 May on US$100 bail.
