A MAN from Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb was left counting his losses after he was kidnapped by a gun-wielding Honda Fit crew that attacked him and reportedly robbed him of his groceries.
The incident happened on Monday. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector, Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of a man from Emganwini suburb who was kidnapped and attacked before they robbed him of his groceries. We would like to urge members of the public to be on the lookout for suspicious cars and try to move away as soon as they notice them,” he said.
Insp Ncube appealed for information that could lead to the whereabouts of the robbers.
He said: “Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station.”
A source close to investigations said while Nephius Banda was walking towards his home, a man ran towards him and asked for directions to the shops.
While he was giving him directions, a Honda Fit drove towards them and abruptly stopped beside them.
Two men who were brandishing a pistol disembarked from the car and one of them pointed the gun at him.
“They ordered him to get into the car and they drove to Plumtree Road, when they got to the road in question they drove along towards Figtree and when they were about a kilometre before Figtree, they stopped the car and punched him in the face demanding money. But he had US$1 and they took all his groceries before they dumped him in the bush and headed to Figtree,” said the source.
