A TAXI driver was left gasping for breath after he was stabbed thrice in the head and face before he was robbed of his car and US$5 by armed robbers who had hired him for a trip to Luveve suburb.
Last week on Friday at around 5.30PM Legion Mpofu (55) was in the city centre pirating for customers with his Honda Fit car and was hired by a man who told him he wanted to be transported to Luveve suburb.
It is said Mpofu charged him US$10 for the trip and the robber paid US$5 and told the driver that he needed to collect US$5 from his mother who works at Luveve Clinic.

The driver drove to the Luveve clinic and while they were on the way, the robber ordered him to stop and the driver stopped, after that he grabbed him by his neck. Things turned nasty for the driver as he tried to fight him.
“The man turned violent and stabbed the driver several times. He bled profusely. He quickly dragged him out of the car and dumped him before he drove off in his car,” said the source close to investigations.
Mpofu later recovered and went to Luveve Police Station where he reported the incident. Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a case where a taxi driver was stabbed several times by an armed robber. We would like to urge taxi drivers to pass by a police station to record the details of the passengers and they should demand to see the identity card or a passport,” he said.
Insp Ncube appealed for information that could lead to the arrest of the accused.
“Anyone with information should contact any nearest police station,” he said.
