AN Umguza man was fatally struck with a brick on the head on Good Friday in a fight between two rival gangs. Mthulisi Nyoni was rushed to hospital and died days after the attack, but before he breathed his last he told relatives that one Tinashe had delivered the brick that was threatening his life. Tinashe Sibanda, 19, who was allegedly part of a rival gang, was arrested by the police days after Nyoni’s death.

Prosecutors say investigations are underway as it is not really clear what exactly transpired on the fateful day.

It is alleged that the fight between the two rival gangs broke out on Good Friday as they were waiting for a musical band that was pencilled to perform in Roseburn.

The two groups threw stones at each other and the fight proved fatal.

Some members of Sibanda’s gang are on the run.

Sibanda appeared before Bulawayo Provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing a murder charge yesterday and he was not asked to plead.

He was remanded in custody to May 7 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza said investigations were still underway as it was not quite clear how Nyoni really died.

“Before Nyoni died, he told his relatives in the hospital that he had been struck by a brick on the head by a guy named Tinashe. Investigations are still underway and more on Nyoni’s death is yet to be established,” said Mageza.
