A MAN from Pelandaba suburb in Bulawayo died on the spot after he was knocked by a truck along Khami Road yesterday morning. Fifty-four-year-old Fellow Dube was hit while standing by the side of the road with two other men waiting for transport to take them to work. Witnesses said a man driving a blue pickup truck hit Dube and dragged him for more than 70 metres, until he fell to the ground.
The truck driver did not stop.
Dube’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary.
When Chronicle arrived at the scene of the accident, his relatives were washing away blood from the road.
Dube’s cousin, Stanley Chikwana, said the family was still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
“We all can’t believe what happened to Fellow. He woke up to go to work as usual and the next thing we hear is that he’s been hit by a car and the person who did this did not even have the decency to stop and wait for the police or his family,” said Chikwana.
He said Dube, who was employed at National Fencing Zimbabwe, was the sole breadwinner and is survived by his wife, Norah Dube and five children.
