Man killed over cap

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati, said the alleged murder took place last Friday at Godobi Village under Chief Negomo.
“The suspect, Dickson Mavhiko (27) of Maravanyika Village, Chief Makope was having a drink at Bare Business Centre with the now deceased Honest Shereni (25) of Godobi Village when Shereni took his friend’s cap and went home with it,” Insp Masikati said.
It is alleged Mavhiko followed Shereni to his homestead to retrieve his cap.
Police say Mavhiko stabbed Shereni in the chest as he came out of the house.
The motive is not yet clear.
“Mavhiko tried to escape but was apprehended by members of the public who surrendered him to Bare Police Base under Chombira Police Station, Bindura,” Insp Masikati said.
The police rushed to the scene and recovered the knife they believe was used in the crime.
The body of the deceased was taken to Concession Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem while Mavhiko is in police custody. He is expected to appear in court soon facing a murder charge.
