A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Mbizo, Kwekwe, was fatally stabbed with a knife by a fellow patron outside a night club following a misunderstanding over a suspected sex worker. Acting Midlands provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the alleged murder of Alex Katambarare on Monday at Mbizo Inn Night Club.

“Police in Mbizo suburb in Kwekwe are investigating a case of murder in which Alex Katambarare of Mbizo in Kwekwe died after being stabbed to death with a knife over a girlfriend by another patron at Mbizo Inn Night Club on Monday,” she said.

Asst Insp Mukwende said on the night in question Katambarare was drinking beer in the company of his friend Takawira Chaitezvi. She said Katambarare allegedly went outside the club and started talking to a suspected sex worker.

“A man only identified as Kelvin who was with his friend confronted Katambarare and slapped him on the face, accusing him of talking to his girlfriend,” said Asst Insp Mukwende. “The now deceased then ran way, but the suspects allegedly followed him and tripped him.” Asst Insp Mukwende said Chaitezvi went out of the club and allegedly saw the suspects assaulting Katambarare who was lying on the ground. “It is alleged that one of the suspects drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased all over his body and they fled from the scene,” she said.

“Chaitezvi reported the matter to a police officer who was on patrol. They rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body of Katambarare lying in a pool of blood. We appeal to anyone who might have information of the whereabouts of these suspects to make a report at any police station.”
