A Harare man who was carrying a handset and US$2 in his pocket got hit on the head by stones by two suspected armed robbers leading to his death.
This occurred while the now deceased Peter Mbudzi was walking in the company of his two friends going home at midnight.
Brian Nyawanza (33) and Fungai Mutandwa (35) appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.
They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court and will return to court on May 11 for routine remand.
Prosecuting, Mrs Grace Magocheke alleged that on December 25 last year at around 00:30am, Mbudzi was walking from Chiremba shops in Epworth, going home together with his friends Tichaona Magarasadza and Munyaradzi Murumbika when Nyawanza and Mutandwa ran past them.
They continued walking and when they reached Chiremba turn off,
Murumbika was the first one to cross the road while the late Mbudzi and Magarasadza followed at a distance.
They got onto a footpath that led into the balancing rocks area and after walking for a few metres, Nyawanza and Mutandwa struck Mbudzi and Magarasadza on the back of their heads with some stones and they fell down.
Nyawanza and Mutandwa searched the pockets of the two and they took an Itel cellphone with a NetOne line and US$2.
They left the two bleeding as they followed Murumbika but they could not catch up with him.
Magarasadza screamed for help and two men came to his rescue.
The two later went where they had left the body of the now deceased which was then ferried to Chitungwiza Central Hospital where it was certified dead by Dr Kabande upon arrival.
Post mortem on the remains of the deceased was conducted by Dr Martinez who concluded that death was due to moderate head trauma.
