A 37-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court on allegations of fatally assaulting another man during an altercation over possession of an okapi knife.

Challenge Kutadzaushe (37) was facing murder charges when he appeared before a Harare magistrate.

The deceased is Tadiwanashe Pedzisai Matapeta (31). The court heard that on March 15, 2026 Kutadzaushe and the deceased had a misunderstanding over possession of an Okapi knife, which was being held by the informant.

It is alleged that Kutadzaushe snatched the okapi knife from the informant and punched the deceased on the nose, resulting in him falling and hitting his head on the edge of a snooker table, thereby sustaining a serious injury on the head.

The court heard that Kutadzaushe then took the deceased and placed him in a shack nearby, and left him lying motionless, and he went to his place.

On March 16 2026, Kutadzaushe went to check on the deceased and saw him lying motionless and he bought him Maheu and tried to give it to him, but he had difficulties drinking it.

On the same date, police officers who were on duty passed through the area and that’s when they received information that there was a seriously injured person in a shack.

Upon arrival, the police officers saw the deceased lying motionless, and the accused was there just looking at the deceased, leading to his arrest.

The court heard that the deceased was then taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital, where a Computerised Tomography Scan indicated a serious injury to his head and he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

He unfortunately succumbed to the injuries.
