Man kills brother in fight over ox proceeds

POLICE have picked up a Gokwe man after he fatally struck his brother with a brick in a fight over proceeds from the sale of their mother’s ox.Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said on Tuesday morning at about 8.30AM, Alton Hove, 23, of Village Shonhai under Chief Chireya was approached by his brother, Ocean, after he got wind that he facilitated the sale of their mother’s beast.

“On Tuesday morning, the now deceased, Ocean got a tip off from a family member that his mother and a younger brother, Alton had sold a family ox without his knowledge. Ocean confronted Alton accusing him of conniving with the mother to sell the ox without his knowledge,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the two siblings later picked a fight during which Ocean attempted to use a machete to attack his young brother.
“Alton ran away but picked a brick which he used to strike Ocean on the head. Ocean collapsed and bled profusely,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Ocean was rushed to the hospital but died on the way. The matter was later reported to the police leading to Alton’s arrest.
