A CHIPINGE man (36) fatally assaulted his young brother (32) over a two-year-old grudge.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident which happened on January 13 at around 4pm in Munyama Village under Chief Garahwa.

He said the late Moses Nyambi (32) also of the same village was assaulted by his elder brother, Tobias Nyambi two years back and kept the grudge.

“Moses kept the grudge for over two years up until the day in question when he opted to revenge. He was drunk on that day.

“He approached Tobias who was charging his cellphone at his neighbour, Thokozani Muchengedzero (32)’s place.

“He told him that he wanted to revenge and started making noise,” said Insp Kakohwa.

“For the sack of peace, Tobias did not retaliate. Instead he took his cellphone and left.

“The drunken Moses followed his brother insulting him. He picked up a stone and struck Tobias. In revenge, Tobias attacked Moses with fists until he fell down. He further attacked him with kicks and Moses bled from the mouth and nose.

“Clifford Nyambi (48), a brother to the duo arrived at the scene and tried to stop Tobias, but failed. Later, Muchengedzero passed by and saw Moses lying on the ground. He took him to his house using a wheelbarrow.

“His condition deteriorated that night and Thokozani took him to St Peter’s Mission Hospital the following day. He died upon arrival,” said Insp Kakohwa.

Tobias was arrested and investigations are in progress.

Insp Kakohwa urged people to seek counselling whenever they have disputes rather than resorting to violence.

He also said people should not use alcohol or drugs to gather courage to solve problems.
