A Buhera man beat to death his 16-year-old daughter after accusing her of stealing R7 last Friday. Spiwe Muchenje, who was accused of stealing R2 from a friend and R5 from her father, died from injuries she sustained in the beating. National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred at Chisa Village under Chief Nyashanu.
He said Spiwe left for school and when she returned, her father wanted to beat her up, but she fled to a nearby homestead.

The father later went to look for her and took her home where he used a stick to assault her all over the body.
She sustained serious injuries and retired to bed a few hours later.

Chief Supt Nyathi said at around 2am, she started screaming and the father took her to some prophets for treatment.
She died while being treated and a report was made to the police, leading to the father’s arrest.

Meanwhile, a security guard was killed last Sunday night by unknown armed robbers who raided a house in Alexandra Park in Harare.
Collin Petro was found lying dead in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the nose, while his right leg was tied with a black tie.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said on the fateful day, the owner of the house, aged 69, was inside when she heard some noise around 10.30pm.

“She peeped through the window, but did not see anything,” he said. “She then phoned Petro’s cellphone number, but it was not reachable.”

The woman then phoned police and they went to the scene where they found Petro lying dead on the verandah in a pool of blood.
His cellphone was found in the guard room.

The body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a post- mortem, as investigations on the case continue.
Chief Supt Nyathi said they were appealing to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact any nearest police station.

Cases of armed robbery have been on the increase in and around the capital with criminals targeting people in their homes during the night.

Police are on record as urging people to desist from keeping large amounts of money in their homes which acted as a magnet for robbers.
