A Harare woman on Wednesday told the Harare Civil Court that she is living in fear of her husband who sleeps with an axe and a knife under his pillow whenever they have a misunderstanding. Jane Mvurume said her husband, Luscious Badza, is in the habit of physically and verbally abusing her because he does not want her to be a beneficiary of their new residential stand.
This was revealed at court where Mvurume was seeking a protection order against Badza.

“It all started when he saw my name written on a receipt for our monthly payments for our stand which I paid since he was no longer paying the monthly subscriptions,” she said.

“From that day, he started threatening to stab me to death with his knife. He went on to buy an axe before telling our daughter that he was going kill me with it.

“I am now living in fear because he is now sleeping with his knife and axe hidden under the pillow.”

Badza refuted the accusations, saying he last physically and verbally abused Mvurume in 2000.
“I do not sleep with an axe or knife as she is alleging, it has been months since she took it away and locked it in her dinning room cabinet,” he said.

“She hates the fact that I am against her idea of encouraging our daughter to wear trousers at my house as I am a member of the Johanne Masowe Echishanu Apostolic sect.”

Magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi granted the protection order which barred Badza from verbally or physically abusing Mvurume.
