A MAN from Tsholotsho allegedly struck his mother with a log until she died, accusing her of failing to properly cook isitshwala.

Sidney Moyo (35) of Dima Village under Chief Gampu Sithole in Nemane area in Ward 11 allegedly struck his mother after an exchange of words about the food his mother served him which he alleged was not well cooked.

Police could not confirm the incident. However, Ward 11 Councillor Jonathan Ndlovu confirmed the incident and said Moyo has been abusive towards his mother since he came from South Africa sometime last year.

“It seems this was not the first time, neighbours are now talking about it that since he came from South Africa, Sidney has been abusive and violent towards his mother, and it seems he used to beat her over some petty issues in the presence of his younger sisters and brothers. What is upsetting is that it seems people were aware of his behaviour but they kept quiet. Now people are talking when he has killed his mother,” he said.

Clr Ndlovu said Moyo initially ran away but villagers hunted him down and found him at Sasedza Village the next day where he was handed over to the police.

“After committing the crime Sidney ran away and the villagers hunted him down and found him at Sasedza, they handed him over to the police. I was so disappointed because the police came without a car and we had to look for a car to ferry the corpse,” said Clr Ndlovu.
